Can a CRO
actually scope this?
The less that is defined, the more the CRO has to assume.
A CRO proposal is built from the information available at the time. When material aspects remain unclear, different CROs may make different assumptions — about the work, the resources, the timeline and ultimately the cost.
The result can be proposals that appear comparable, but aren’t.
A budget built on assumptions can still be useful — as long as you know they are assumptions.
What are you actually asking for?
Not every CRO request serves the same purpose.
- 01
Early budget indication
For early planning and financial decision-making.
- 02
Selection-ready proposal
For meaningful comparison between CROs.
- 03
Contracting basis
For a scope you may actually commit to.
The level of definition needed increases with the commitment you intend to make.

Ready for the request
Ready with gaps to close
Not yet ready
You may be ready for an early budget indication — without yet being ready for CRO selection.
Clear boundaries
This is a readiness review — not a study design review.
The Readiness Check assesses whether the material is sufficiently defined for CRO scoping and budgeting in relation to the intended request.
It does not assess or redesign the underlying study strategy or study design. If a material concern becomes apparent during the review, it may be flagged, but resolving it is outside the scope of this product.
